2012 Grand Cayman
Having gotten a taste of the island life from Saint Martin it was time for something new. Grand Cayman had been on my list for no particular reason so we set our sites here. For one thing about Grand Cayman - it is flat. The island chain is basically a coral reef that has grown up and out of the ocean whereas most of the islands along the Atlantic are dormant volcanic islands which were formed through lava flows. Because of this, the diving in GC isn't bad, but when you go to the wall it is a sheer drop into the Gulf of Mexico thousands of feet. Whatever you do - don't drop something, there will be no chance of getting anything back.
For our trip we didn't need to rent a vehicle for the week. We took a "bus" which was a bit more of a taxi to our hotel and the dive operator picked us up at the hotel and dropped us off for each day of diving. We then walked across a busy street to Coconut Joes were the food (alcohol) was really good, so we were frequent guests there.
If we needed to get around, it was either a short walk to something, or we could hop on the island busses to something new. We did take one day and rented a car to drive to the other side of the island which was a nice day to get out and away.

Stingray City
If anyone tries to describe Stingray City in Grand Cayman they won't be able to explain how awesome it is. This is something you have to experience for yourself. The video below is just a microcosm of how cool this trip was.
Diving Kittwake
Diving Kittiwake was our first wreck dive and it didn't disappoint. We'd love to go back and check it out after GC got hit by a hurricane a few years ago. I understand the ship has now fallen on its side, which would create a whole new and interesting diving experience.
An interesting tie-in to our Space Shuttle trip is that Kittiwake used to recover the solid rocket boosters from the shuttle program.
